Background of the Area and the Focus Group
Prakasam district is the most neglected and underdeveloped area and it needed an organized concentration to address the issues at macro and micro level. The government of Andhra Pradesh has announced this district as drought prone district. PDSSS became imperative to give special concentration on Prakasam district. The immediate need identified, therefore, is to develop basic infrastructure, animation processes, leadership formation and a continuous process of capacity building initiatives. These process will pave way to speedy and sustained process of empowerment in this rural district.
Having situated in the South-Eastern India, Prakasam is an administrative district in Andhra Pradesh. The district headquarter is located at Ongole. It is one of the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. According to the 2001 census, the total area of this district is 17, 626 sq.kms with the population of 3, 054.941. The literacy rate of Prakasam is 57.86%. Sex Ratio per 1000 males is 998 females.
The target group of the project will be mainly from Dalits (75%), Tribals (5%) and backward communities (10%). The Dalits and Tribals constitute about 26% of the total population in Nellore diocese. They are mostly landless laborers, shunned socially by higher castes and neglected in social services, education, and health and are the most oppressed – culturally, socially, economically and politically, who live in abject poverty in hamlets segregated from the caste people.
Since the Dalits and Tribals together form 80% of the population in Dornala area. They generally engage as daily vendors. The men get an average of Rs.15O/- and the women get Rs.130/- per day’s hard work by selling onions, vegetables and plastic articles. Even this vendering going to different villages by bi-cycle or carrying the things on their foreheads is guaranteed only for about 5 – 6 months per year during the season. The rest of the year they remain unemployed struggling to meet their basic needs. Since they do not have alternate means of occupation or income they borrow money from the landlords for livlihood and emergency purposes, which leads to further dependency and even bondage with the landlords. As a result the Dalits and Tribals are not able to provide for themselves basic human requirements and live in sub-human conditions.
Aim for these Scheduled Casts:
-
To show some employment opportunities to the school dropout girls and other less educated married women,
-
To supplement the regular income of the parents and husbands of the families.
-
The marriage problem of these teenage girls can also be solved as these girls are earning on tailoring independently and helping the parents,
-

-
The women will have good respect from their husbands as they are earning members,
-
The financial status of the parents and families will be improved with additional income of the girls and women,

We have the projects planned: One of the most heinous crimes that the humanity is responsible to have committed to God and his nature is making the child as slave human selfishness, by sending them to work as child laborers. It is Unforgivable sin than no one can forgive as the act incidentally kills the entire person’s future. Child laborers are exposed to dangers and hazardous working conditions exploited to the core of starting from family to all the establishments. And they are paid very minimum for long and extensive working conditions. They are deprived of education, forced to shoulder the family responsibilities and burden in many cases far beyond their experience and age. They get subjected to physical, psychological and sexual abuse by everybody; they are not even spared by the family and kith and kin. Hence child labour rehabilitation will be taken up shortly.
We have planned for construction of Residential school for 200 children
